Flooded 2012

Like what took place a few years ago, most of the country is heavily flooded.
The Philippines is being inundated by torrential rains for almost 2 weeks now.
It's sad that floods have become a "normal" thing here in the country during the
monsoon season.

I and my family are still fortunate, that we weren't severely affected by the floods unlike
most of my countrymen whose entire homes were submerged in water.
The weather bureau stated that the country will still be experiencing rain until the weekend.
I hope Mother Nature would ease up a bit and stop bitching :-)

If you wish to help the victims of the flood, you can do so by visiting

Unfortunately it is only the beginning. Because of global warming the ice are melting on both poles which is causing the sea level to rise. Most of metro Manila is already below sea level and most of central Luzon is barely above sea level. Also because of global warming, there will be more monsoon rains than in the past and typhoons will more frequent and much stronger than in the past. Sadly, for most f of the Philippines, the future will be water-world. It is depressing to think about it but is the future of this country.

Global warming may be one of the causes but the main reasons why these floods occur here in the Philippines are because of;
1. Poorly maintained & outdated sewage systems.
2. Inefficient flood gate system.
3. Absence of storm drains.
4. Silted rivers & waterways.
5. Deforestation.
6. Irresponsible handling of trash by majority of the public. People throw their rubbish everywhere.
7. Politics and corruption.

People are mostly to blame.

You are both right. But because of climate change, I don't think there is hope for metro Manila in the future. In the long run metro Manila will have to be abandoned. Metro Manila should be dismantled, cleaned up and turned into a national park with hundreds of millions of trees. Let it be flooded during the yearly moonsoon season. Of course the gigantic challenge is how and where to relocate the current population and businesses of metro Manila.
